In our workshops, it feels safe to have a go at the public speaking and conversations you've been avoiding or fearful of until now, amongst friends who can truly empathise with your feelings and challenges because they’ve all been there too.
Quiet Connections CIC
We believe that no one should feel alone, broken or ashamed, the way that we did. Talking about our self-doubt and our anxieties in social situations is still taboo. We tend to think we should be able to do certain things, like talk to strangers and speak up, just because other people seem to manage with ease. It can feel like we’re the only person struggling. In reality, this is a huge, unspoken issue with over 1 in 10 people feeling socially anxious (that’s around 55,000 adults in Cornwall!) and 2 in 5 people considering themselves to be shy. So many people feel awkward in social situations and think bad of themselves for it; impacting on their education, career, relationships, health and wellbeing. We want to change this. We're opening up about our own stories of feeling socially anxious, shy and not good enough, so you know you're not the only one and don’t have to feel ashamed. We’re want to give you hope that you can change the way you’re feeling, and give you the support you need to become the best, most compassionate, creative and courageous version of yourself, so you can live your life the way you want. There were three key things that helped us to grow in confidence: Connecting with people who have similar stories, experiencing genuine understanding and compassion Growing through coaching and educating ourselves to change unhelpful thoughts, behaviours and beliefs Stretching our comfort zones; gradually having a go at situations we found scary For us, it was largely down to luck bringing the right people and opportunities to us, and finding the bravery to open up and take risks without support. It’s taken many, many years to find our way alone. Individually, we dreamt of the day when everyone who feels socially anxious and not good enough can access a safe, nurturing community; a supportive space where it’s okay to talk and it’s okay to be quiet. A place where you know you’re not alone and you feel genuinely understood. And we can access all the support we need to grow our confidence together, becoming our best selves to live our lives the way we want and help other people along the way. Together, we've grown a wonderful Quiet Community. This is how we can help you... Charity Registration No. 10767754
